Our Story

October 28, 1936

C.A. Wines & Harold Blood founded Airtec Metal Products Company in a small garage located on a side street off of West Jefferson in Detroit, Michigan, manufacturing residential steel storm sash and screens.

1940's-1960'S

Despite the lean years of World War II, Airtec continued to grow, expaning its product line to include screens, storm sash, and combination screens-and-guards for steel and wood windows.

In 1946, Airtec reached an important milestone with the construction of its first building on Seven Mile Road in Detroit. The new facility provided much-needed room to grow - and a few long-awaited amenities, including something the original garage never had: a restroom.

A decade later in 1956, Harold Blood left the partnership, and Airtec became incorporated. With a growing manufacturing operation and facility of its own, Airtec entered it next chapter positioned for continued expansion.

1970-2000's

By the 1970s, Airtec had established itself as a distributor, expanding its product offerings to include hollow metal doors and frames, hardware, and building specialties.

Over the next three decades, the company continued to grow its presence in the commercial construction industry, becoming one of the nation's leading commercial hollow metal suppliers - and building a reputation for quality products, industry expertise, and dependable service in the process.

2010-2019

As market conditions shifted in the late 2000s, Airtec recognized a need to evolve. By 2010, the company had largely stepped away from hollow metal distribution and shifted its focus toward custom metal fabrication.

This pivot led to the creation of Airtec's Architectural & Industrial divisions, allowing the company to apply decades of manufacturing experience to a broader range of custom products for the construction, industrial, and other specialized markets.

2020

Airtec made its return to the hollow metal industry with the launch of its sister company, Total Openings - creating a dedicated business focused on service-driven hollow metal doors, frames, and hardware solutions. This allowed Airtec to re-enter a market that had been an important part of its history, while still maintaining the company's focus on custom fab.

2026

Airtec proudly celebrates 90 years in business. Still family-owned and led by the 3rd and 4th generations, Airtec has evolved from its beginnings in 1936 into a diversified custom metal fabricator.
